Welcome to Deep Cabaret
DECOMPOSING
The page turns. A chapter closes. Deep Cabaret evolves, decomposing, emergent. As it always has. Forced by circumstance or the ripeness of time.
So if you’ve caught us on stage or in the woods come and celebrate 7+ years of riffs and drones with us. And if you’ve heard the buzz, but never got to one of our increasingly rare shows, take note - it’s now or never.
As an ongoing life’s work Deep Cabaret (aka Steve Lewis) will continue but this Spring will be your last chance to see the current version of the project- as a five piece with Maja, Ben, Paul and Jay.
To mark the occasion we’ll be ‘Decomposing’ at the boutiquest venues in Lancaster, Newcastle and Liverpool, with blooms you will recognise from the Matchless and beWILDer projects mixed with some brand new buds fresh for Spring.
There will be a chance too to catch a short DC Solo set pointing to the next chapter - showcasing Steve‘s own lyrics fresh from his sinking deeper into the Land and it’s Mystery.
And if you’re very lucky a short set by Moot too- Maja’s new duo project with Ben - https://majabugge.com/2022/12/02/moot/
DECOMPOSING:
Songs of the ecology, economics,
poetics and politics of Land
Music about the Land, what it is and how we are with it. Owning it, farming it, walking it, loving it; the science, the mythopoetics and the more-than-human kin of it. Can we change the world through a deeper attention to eider and moss, lichen and alveoli, knowing and not knowing?
Featuring the writings of Sharon Blackie, Merlin Sheldrake, Bella Bathurst, William Blake and the like. Not to mention the sound of the ecosystem that is Deep Cabaret calving into new formations!

beWILDer is our immersive, music-led, woodland walk.
A coupling of Deep Cabaret music and Deep Ecology stories to seduce you into falling in love with the world.
An intimate, site-specific performance, inspired by the demands of Covid and the Climate Emergency, that will transform your experience of the land and your place in the inter-connected ecosystem we are all a part of.
What it takes to reverse global warming is one person after another remembering who we truly are.

MATCHLESS
Matchless is our limited edition album recorded at RealWorld studios, produced by Justin Adams, supported by Arts Council England .
An entrancement of riffs and drone sirening out of the intertidal mudflats and cowbelly quicksands of Morecambe Bay.
Desert blues improv and noir-drenched drone songs; hurdies, bagpipes, throat singing, cello, bass clarinet and drums making sparkling jazz, rooted folk and torching vocals.
Lyrics sampled from literature, science, sitcoms, whatever has something worth hearing to say about being human.
Punters say: "Gorgeous and stirring", "Wonderful and invigorating’
