a "stunning..first-rate, left-leaning group " Melodic grooves, spacious soundscapes, exhibitionist gestures and conversational intimacies .
Top Ten Sex Tips was specially commissioned by Manchester Jazz Festival to celebrate it's 10 th anniversary. It is a visually spiked song cycle on sex, love, and the point of it all using texts drawn from Judaic, Islamic and Buddhist traditions as well as samplings and settings of the likes of Carl Jung and Haruki Murakami and a bottle of bleach!
It features a video by digital artist Jenny McCabe using work by Dave Henman as well as material she gathered from e bay - including discarded home movies and 1970's Super 8 'glamour' films. Music and film working now harmoniously now discordantly, blend the visceral and the spiritual to offer two instantaneously parallel commentaries on the texts.
"Steve Lewis was stunning with a first-rate, left-leaning group.. He offered profound philosophical insights gleaned from texts by Jung, Don DeLilo and the label of a bottle of disinfectant. The band created a productive tension between clashing elements - violin vs trombone, pedal steel guitar vs surf guitar and so on - and it was wonderful."
